Redland City Council is inviting the community to participate in workshops and an online survey to help shape an action plan that will enhance community safety on Redlands Coast.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said the engagement activities were an important step in ensuring the Redlands Coast Community Safety Action Plan reflected the views and needs of the community.
“The action plan is an important document that, once finalised, will guide Council’s actions and role in enhancing the safety and wellbeing of our residents,” the Mayor said.

“As part of the engagement process for this project, Council is inviting the community to share their thoughts in an online survey or participate in an in-person community workshop in May.
“We recognise that everyone’s experience is different and are calling on people from a range of age groups and different parts of the city to have their say during the consultation process.
“The questions in the survey are designed to be answered in 5-10 minutes and ask people to reflect on their perceptions of community safety, such as their top three safety concerns and what they see as the priorities for Council improvements.
“Council will also be engaging with other key stakeholders such as Queensland Police Service, community leaders and local groups as part of this process.
“The data and insights we receive from the engagement activities will help identify the areas of greatest need and ensure the action plan is targeted to these priorities.”
The Mayor said developing a Community Safety Action Plan was a key initiative identified in the Redlands Coast Stronger Communities Strategy, adopted in 2024.
“This strategy sets a framework and strategic vision for strengthening the fabric of our city through various Council initiatives and actions,” the Mayor said.
“The priorities identified in the action plan will also align with the goal of keeping our city strong, connected, safe and resilient.
“It is important to note that the Queensland Police Service is the lead government agency for the detection, investigation and prosecution of crime in Queensland.
“However, as part of our commitment to public safety and wellbeing, Council regularly collaborates with representatives from QPS and delivers a range of services itself to enhance safety in the local community.
“This includes graffiti management, homelessness responses, supporting local level safety initiatives, and providing security cameras in public spaces.
“The action plan will focus on these core local government roles and responsibilities in the context of broader crime-related concerns and community-level interventions.”
The Mayor said the scope of the action plan project would extend to benchmarking Council’s safety provisions with neighbouring local government areas.
“This is another important opportunity to look at what is working and identify areas where improvements may need to be made,” the Mayor said.
“Along with the engagement activities, this process will ensure the action plan is evidence-based and best responds to the areas of greatest concern.”
