It is time to make a space in your diary to visit Cleveland Library’s Makerspace.

The dedicated creative space is now taking bookings for users to undergo inductions on how the space and its equipment work.

Mayor Jos Mitchell and Division 2 Councillor Peter Mitchell visited the space recently to view the area’s creative equipment such as 3D printers, Cricut makers, photo scanner, 8mm film convertor and sewing machines.

“This space will give Redlands creatives the opportunity to further explore and develop their talents,” she said.

“It’s a space to have creative fun.

“To use the space, you will need to be a member of Redland City Council Libraries, aged 12 or older, and have completed an induction on the equipment you plan to use.

“Once you have done your induction, you will be able to book the equipment and come in and try it out for yourself.”

While library staff will be overseeing the Makerspace, using the equipment will be self-guided and individuals will be responsible for their own creations.

Whether you’re a tech enthusiast eager to bring your digital creations to life, a hobbyist keen to delve into new crafting techniques, or a student working on a school project, the Makerspace offers something for everyone.

This project has received financial assistance from the Queensland Government through State Library of Queensland.

Cr Peter Mitchell said Makerspace would be complemented by a new digital resource called Creativebug which offers online video arts and crafts workshops and techniques.

“Creativebug is an online learning platform and has a large catalogue on online classes including for sewing, crocheting, upcycling, felting and screen printing that will be free for library members,” he said.

“Teaming this with the physical space and equipment at Cleveland Library’s Makerspace makes for such a comprehensive and exciting opportunity.”

Cleveland Library is located at the corner of Bloomfield and Middle streets, Cleveland, and is open Monday to Friday, 9am to 5pm, and on Saturdays from 9am to 4pm.
