Tickets are now on sale for this year’s Redland City Mayoral Prayer Breakfast to be held on Friday 8 September 2023.

Mayor Karen Williams said money raised at the 21st annual event would support chaplaincy and wellbeing officers in Redlands Coast state schools.

“This breakfast provides a great opportunity for residents to support programs that directly benefit about 15,000 students each year,” Cr Williams said.

“Chaplains and, more recently, wellbeing officers offer mentoring, role modelling and pastoral care to improve student welfare and help them reach their aspirations in learning and in life.

“These programs also provide support to local families and school support staff, so it is important the chaplains and wellbeing officers are there when someone needs to reach out for support.

“Last year’s breakfast raised a record amount of more than $30,000, which was shared between all state schools on Redlands Coast.”

The event will include entertainment and guest speaker Jason Fiddes, who owns a life coaching business that specialises in wellbeing.

Mr Fiddes is a former troubled teenager who dealt with long-term unemployment and a substance use disorder before turning his life around.

He has previously worked as a player welfare coordinator at the Brisbane Broncos and New Zealand Warriors.

Nominations are also open for the fourth annual Pastor Glen Gray Award.

“This award recognises an outstanding school chaplain who has demonstrated significant social, emotional and spiritual support to students, parents and school employees,” Cr Williams said.

“All chaplains employed within a Redlands Coast state, Catholic or independent school are eligible for nomination.

“This is a great opportunity to recognise a school chaplain for exceeding expectations and providing an additional dimension to care and guidance through role modelling and programs that foster supportive and positive relationships.”

Nominations close on Monday 14 August and the recipient of the 2023 award will be announced at the breakfast.

Cr Williams said there were also sponsorship opportunities available for the event.
