Children are being encouraged to dive into the newly refurbished marine-themed children’s area at Cleveland Library.

Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said a whale seating nook and lighthouse with seagulls were just two of the area’s many charming design features.
“Cleveland Library has created a vibrant, playful, inclusive and immersive space for children and families that reflects its closeness and strong connection to Redlands Coast’s marine environment,” she said.
Local artists Sandra and Shara Delaney have produced ocean‑themed Indigenous artwork for the library’s window decals.
The refurbishment project was funded from Mayor Jos Mitchell’s Community Infrastructure Program (Library Enrichment Acquisition Project) and was underpinned by a focus on creating a space that supported early literacy, creativity, sensory needs, and shared reading experiences.

Key features of the project include:
- Cosy reading nooks and flexible seating options to suit different ages and learning styles.
- Sensory friendly spaces, designed to support children with diverse needs and create a calm, inclusive environment.
- Adult–child collaborative seating to encourage shared reading, learning, and connection.
- Child‑friendly book shelving and market‑stall style play equipment.
The project also involved the acquisition of VOX Books – interactive, read along print books with integrated audio that support early literacy, accessibility, and engagement.
