Parking changes are set to be introduced at Moores Road, Redland Bay as Redland City Council continues to improve access for people using the Weinam Creek precinct.
Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the Moores Road car park was part of a staged program of improvements across the precinct, supporting commuters and visitors travelling to and from the Southern Moreton Bay Islands and the wider Redlands Coast community.
“We know parking at Weinam Creek is under pressure, particularly during peak commuter times,” she said.
“These changes at the Moores Road car park are about improving turnover and availability, making it easier for people to find a parking space to access the ferry terminal.”
Planned changes at the Moores Road car park include updated signage and new timed parking zones, including:
- 384 parking spaces that are currently on unrestricted timing will be converted to 297 car parks for 168-hour (seven-day) parking and 87 car parks for 72-hour (three-day) parking
- 38 parking spaces currently allocated as 72-hour (three-day) vehicle with boat trailer parking will be converted to 24-hour (one-day) vehicle with boat trailer parking.
Cr Talty said Council was also working with the Queensland Government, through Economic Development Queensland (EDQ), on the long-term parking solution for Weinam Creek.
“EDQ will fund and deliver the new multi-level car park at Weinam Creek,” she said.
“In the meantime, we’re taking practical steps that can be delivered sooner – starting at Moores Road – to improve how existing parking is used.”
Division 5 Councillor Shane Rendalls said regular parking turnover in the Moores Road area would create a fairer system for commuters travelling to and from the islands.
“This is another step in the ongoing evolution of Weinam Creek and will support greater parking availability for those using the nearby ferry services,” he said.
Council is encouraging anyone who currently leaves a vehicle parked for extended periods at Weinam Creek to check car park signage, with detailed information, including maps and the start date for any new parking conditions, available on Council’s website.
The Moores Road car park was delivered by Council in partnership with Redland Investment Corporation under stage one of the Weinam Creek Priority Development Area project, providing more than 500 additional car park spaces for commuters to the Southern Moreton Bay Islands.
