Essential Redland City Council services and many organisational services will continue operating through the Christmas-New Year period.
Bins will continue to be collected, parks will continue to be maintained and essential compliance services will be active – ensuring the city looks its best and is safe during the festive season.
Some other Council services will be closed from close of business on Wednesday 24 December 2025 and will reopen on Monday 5 January 2026.

Customer Service Centres
Cleveland will be closed from 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 8.30am on Monday 5 January 2026.
Capalaba will be closed from 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.
Victoria Point will be closed from 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.
Council’s Contact Centre (for telephone calls) will close 4.30pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 8.30am on Monday 5 January 2026. Council’s emergency service number – 3829 8999 – will operate during the closure period for Council-related emergencies.
During this time, Council’s online services will also be available at redland.qld.gov.au to:
- report non-urgent issues
- register an animal or update animal details
- view your rates notices or change your address
- conduct property searches, lodge a development application or a submission against an application
- pay bills online – such as rates notices, animal registration and infringement notices.
Recycling and Waste Centres and waste collection services
Kerbside waste, recycling and green waste collections will continue as usual over the holiday period including Christmas Day. Collection services on Christmas Day will start earlier at 5am; for all other days please remember to put bins out before 6am on day of collection.
Park and street bin collections will also occur as scheduled.
For kerbside bins that were missed and not emptied between 24 December and 2 January, please phone the after-hours number (3829 8999) to arrange a collection; online requests will not be actioned during this period. Bin repairs and replacement requests made after 3pm on Tuesday 23 December will be actioned from Tuesday 6 January.
All recycling and waste centres will be closed on Christmas Day and will operate normal opening hours at all other times. Check Council’s website for details.
RecycleWorld at Redland Bay: Last trading day for 2025 is Friday 19 December and it will re-open on Friday 9 January 2026. Usual trading times are Tuesday and Friday, 10am to 2pm.
Redland Animal Shelter
The animal shelter will be closed on Christmas Day only.
Limited opening hours (9am to 12pm) apply from 26 December 2025 up to and including 4 January 2026.
Redland City Council Libraries
Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point libraries: closed from 5pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.
Dunwich Library: closed from 5pm on Tuesday 23 December 2025 until 9am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.
Point Lookout Library: closed from 5pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9.30am on Wednesday 7 January 2026.
Russell Island Library: closed from 5pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9.30am on Wednesday 7 January 2026.
Mobile Library: closed from 5pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025. Reopening at 9am on Monday 5 January 2026 with community outreach stops.
During closures, no items will be due and all after hours return chutes will be closed.
The full digital library of eBooks, eMagazines, eAudiobooks, digital newspapers and streaming of music, movies and television shows will be available via Council’s Libraries website.
The 24/7 library lockers outside Cleveland Library will be available to collect reserved items.
Aquatic centres
Cleveland Aquatic Centre will have revised opening hours from Monday 22 December 2025 to Sunday 12 January 2026, and will be closed on Christmas Day. Contact the centre for further details.
Bay Islands Aquatic Centre on Russell Island will be closed on Christmas Day. Information on opening hours is available on Council’s website.
Redland Performing Arts Centre
The centre will be closed from 4pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.
Tickets can be purchased through the RPAC website during this time.
Redland Art Gallery
Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland will be closed from 4pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.
Redland Art Gallery, The Mezz at Redland Performing Arts Centre will also be closed from 4pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 9am on Monday 5 January 2026.
Redlands IndigiScapes Centre
The IndigiScapes Centre and Botanic Gardens will be closed from 3pm on Wednesday 24 December 2025 until 8am on Monday 5 January 2026.
The walking trails will remain open.
IndigiScapes Café will be closed from 3pm on Tuesday 23 December 2025 until 8am on Tuesday 6 January 2026.
The Native Nursery will be closed from 3pm on Tuesday 23 December 2025 until 10am on Monday 12 January 2026.
Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre
The centre, at 50 Middle Street, Cleveland is open 7 days a week, 9am to 4pm over the holidays, except Christmas Day and Boxing Day.
