Providing more designated swimming areas and locations for film and television production are amongst a suite of laws adopted for review in today’s Council meeting.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said following today’s decision Council would now proceed with amending the local laws which would then proceed to consultation.
“The Local law amendments include designating three new dog parks, potentially gazetting beaches at Wellington Point and Raby Bay as bathing reserves and clarifying standards for keeping animals by removing reference to geese and turkeys from the local law. ”

“One law up for review is about the protection of animals, ensuring Council has the ability to regulate against the act of abandoning animals.’
“We’d also like to attract more film and media production to the region, so one of the laws looks at giving Council the ability to close off public spaces for such an event.’
“It’s important to note that none of these changes will proceed without a strict process of engagement and public consultation and this is outlined in the legislation.
This is just the first stage of a multi-stage process where people will have the opportunity to make a written submission to object or support the changes.
