Redland City Council has launched an education campaign to help residents understand how city planning works.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said that while the planning process could seem daunting, breaking it down into each puzzle piece and then seeing how they fit together could help.
“It is important that community members are informed so they can work with Council on the principles that guide change and growth on Redlands Coast,” the Mayor said.

“With this initiative, I have been informed Council will share clear and practical information on key planning topics designed to explain how planning works, why it matters to our city, and how decisions are made.”
The Mayor said the campaign included a series of short videos and supporting information, to be released over coming months, that covered topics such as infrastructure planning, managing natural hazard impacts, protecting the environment, and how developments are assessed.
“Planning isn’t just about regulation and data – it is also about people and their local insights,” she said.
“This campaign seeks to help explain where community input fits into the planning process and how and when people can have their say.
“It also supports future community involvement in the new Redlands Coast City Plan being prepared by Council.
“This new City Plan will replace the Redland City Plan 2018 and will guide change and growth across Redlands Coast over the next 25 years.”
Council’s Planning and Regulation Portfolio Representative Councillor Rowanne McKenzie said the Understanding the City Planning Puzzle initiative would provide the opportunity for residents to be better informed on day-to-day planning matters.
“Town planning helps create organised, sustainable, and liveable communities,” she said.
“It is how Council manages land uses and guides new development.
“It plays a vital role in shaping the places we live, work, and enjoy.”
