Following a request from the owner of Cleveland Central, Redland City Council will amend one of its local laws to allow regulated parking at two commercial carparks, which are commonly known in the community as the Coles and Woolworths carparks.
Six new regulated off-street parking areas will be added to Schedule 2 of Subordinate Local Law No. 5 (Parking) 2015 – five sites at 67–107 Middle Street (Woolworths) and one site at 100 Middle Street (Coles).
The amendment process, endorsed at this week’s General Meeting of Council, follows a request from the owner of Cleveland Central to enter into an agreement with Council to undertake regulated parking enforcement in their carparks.
Given the significance of these carparks as part of the broader Cleveland regulated parking area, this amendment will help bring consistency in providing equity for parking opportunities for all users.
Private landholders and business operators are able to limit parking on their properties and regulate it through a range of means, including timed parking, paid parking and restricted entry.
Under Council’s local law-making process, Council is allowing three weeks to inform the community of the amendment prior to the local law change being formally considered for adoption at the September General Meeting of Council.
If adopted, Council will be able to undertake enforcement activities on behalf of the carpark owner.
Before any parking changes are enforced, Council will advocate for the owner to install signage throughout the carparks to advise users of the changes.
The penalty for overstaying a timed parking limit is a $166 fine.
Council encourages all drivers to ensure they park in accordance with the parking signs within the City.
Information on the proposed changes to this local law is available on Council’s Your Say page.
