Redland City Council has organised extra parking and park patrols to help residents and visitors make the most of the Australia Day long weekend.

Parking is available at Wellington Point Community Hall car park on Wood Lane and at Wellington Point Village Green on Main Road on both Australia Day, Sunday 26 January, and the public holiday on Monday 27 January.

Overflow parking is also available at Toondah Harbour every day over the long weekend for those travelling to North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).

Park visitors are urged to be considerate of others as the city’s outdoor spaces will be busy and facilities such as barbecues will be in high demand.

Council encourages all park visitors to take their waste home with them where possible, especially large bulky items as these choke up the bins and reduce capacity.

People are also urged to not overload bins or place their waste beside the bins. Not only is littering illegal, but this waste can easily be dispersed into the bay.

Council officers will be patrolling larger parks and reserves and there will also be police patrols to ensure everyone is able to enjoy the beautiful outdoor spaces on Redlands Coast.

It is also important for dog owners to keep their dogs on leash while out in public.

There are many dog off-leash areas on Redlands Coast and even some beaches where they can be off leash, but in other open spaces it is vital they stay on their lead to ensure the safety of all.

For ideas on things to do on Australia Day, drop into the Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre at 50 Middle Street, Cleveland, or browse the Visit Redlands Coast website or Redland City Council’s online What’s On calendar.

What’s open on the Australia Day public holiday:

  • Council offices and customer service centres will be closed.
  • Normal bin collection services will occur.
  • All Recycling and Waste Centres on both the mainland and islands will be open as normal. Check Council’s website for opening times.
