A delegation of students from Japan’s Gifu University of Medical Science recently visited Redland City Council to learn more about the region’s natural and cultural attractions and hear about Council’s role in the community.
Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the university students who visited Council were on an Australian study tour organised by the Australia-Japan Wildlife Conservation and Education Foundation.
“We value our relationship with Gifu University of Medical Science and always appreciate the opportunity to speak with students, teachers and other guests about our naturally wonderful Redlands Coast lifestyle,” she said.

“These cultural exchanges are mutually beneficial for our cities, both economically and socially, and help to further strengthen ties between Council and international communities.
“Students were able to interact with Councillors and Council staff while learning about some of the elements that make Redlands Coast such a wonderful place to live, work and visit.
“This includes our more than 335 kilometres of coastline, our hinterland, beaches and bay areas, and of course North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah).
“Council has been pleased to welcome several student delegations from Gifu University of Medical Science over recent years.
“It’s wonderful to see that the positive feedback from these previous visits has inspired others to experience Redlands Coast.”
During the visit, one of the delegation’s chaperones, Professor Kimihiko Urano, presented Acting Mayor Julie Talty with a certificate of appreciation, followed by a brief presentation from the students.
Other Redlands Coast locations on the touring group’s itinerary included North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), along with the Mater Private Hospital Redland and new aged care facility Sorrento, both in Cleveland.
The Australia-Japan Wildlife Conservation and Education Foundation is dedicated to fostering collaboration between Australia and Japan in the fields of wildlife conservation and education.
The foundation has organised several previous Gifu University of Medical Science visits to Redlands Coast as part of Australian tours.
