Redland City Council’s much lauded Create Exchange visual art program will be renewed and renamed after securing a further three years of philanthropic funding.
Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said Create Exchange was a three‑year program of artist residencies, exhibitions and activations presented by Redland Art Gallery that began in 2024.
“Building on the program’s success, Redland Art Gallery will deliver a new artist-led placemaking initiative designed to support cultural, community and tourism outcomes across Redlands Coast,” Cr Talty said.
“The next phase – Visualising Redlands, an arts placemaking project – adopts a design-thinking approach to explore how arts and creativity can contribute to stronger, more vibrant communities.”

The multi-year project is supported through philanthropic funding provided by Haymans Electrical and Data Suppliers, in partnership with Queensland Art Gallery | Gallery of Modern Art (QAGOMA) as a strategic partner supporting delivery across participating galleries in Queensland.
“I’d like to acknowledge the incredible generosity of this philanthropic gift for a second three-year program at Redland Art Gallery,” Cr Talty said.
“The gallery is one of Redland City’s flagship cultural assets and this gift represents a significant investment in both the gallery and our community.
“The success and cultural importance of the inaugural Create Exchange program, from 2024 to 2026, was reinforced recently with Redland Art Gallery named a finalist in the 2026 Queensland Gallery and Museum Achievement Awards for the program.”

Portfolio representative for Arts, Culture and Heritage, Councillor Paul Bishop said the new program would include two funded Strategic Doing workshops.
“These workshops, facilitated by exceptional professionals, will provide a platform for community participation, exploration of opportunities and future project ideas,” Cr Bishop said.
“I strongly urge Redland creatives to engage, learn and contribute skills and ideas.”
The Strategic Doing workshops will be delivered in partnership with arts writer Louise Martin-Chew supported by a Queensland Arts Projects Fund grant from Queensland Government through Arts Queensland, part of the Department of Education and facilitated by Dr Jo’Anne Langham from the Strategic Doing Institute.
The inaugural Create Exchange program showcased the work of Quandamooka mother and daughter artists Sonja Carmichael and Elisa Jane Carmichael in 2024; Quandamooka artist and designer Delvene Cockatoo-Collins in 2025; and Quandamooka artist Dean Biŋkin Tyson, whose Create Exchange: Painted Up exhibition ran from April to June this year.
