The Office of Mayor at Redland City Council has become vacant, triggering a by-election to elect a new Mayor of Redland City.
The vacancy follows Council having today received the former Mayor’s resignation.
Acting Mayor Julie Talty wished the former Mayor well and said her own immediate focus remained on serving the Redlands Coast community.
“On behalf of Council, I wish the former Mayor all the best for the future,” she said.
“My focus as Acting Mayor remains on supporting our community and providing steady leadership during this period of transition.”
Redland City Council Chief Executive Officer Louise Rusan said Council had received advice from the former Mayor, confirming her resignation.
“In accordance with Queensland local government electoral requirements, a by-election is now required to fill the vacant position,” Ms Rusan said.
“The by-election will be conducted by the Electoral Commission of Queensland, giving eligible Redland City residents the opportunity to vote for their preferred candidate to serve as Mayor until the next Queensland local government elections in 2028.
“Councillor Julie Talty will continue as Acting Mayor during the election period.
“For Council and our community, it is business as usual.
“Council will continue delivering the services our community relies on and progressing its priorities.”
Information about the by-election, including candidate nominations, enrolment and voting arrangements, will be made available by the Electoral Commission of Queensland in due course.
