Redland City Council is undertaking works to manage stormwater flows below Ron Stark Oval on North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah), ensuring the area is protected into the future.
The project includes the installation of an engineered soil stabilisation system that, combined with rock armour installed along a section of the Dunwich foreshore, will improve resilience against stormwater erosion and ensure the community has ongoing safe access to the area.
Mayor Jos Mitchell said the project would also support the health of coastal ecosystems, including habitat for local wildlife, by reducing sediment runoff and maintaining natural buffers.

“This is an important project, particularly following recent severe weather events such as the cyclone we experienced earlier this year,” the Mayor said.
“The Dunwich foreshore is a local favourite and completing these works will help to protect the natural beauty of the area through improved management of stormwater flows.
“This project is an important step forward in the way we manage stormwater flows in the area and is great news for the many people who use the foreshore for recreation activities, with the Dunwich swimming enclosure located nearby.”
Division 2 Councillor Peter Mitchell said the project would ensure the community could continue enjoying the foreshore and surrounding assets for many years to come.
“Stabilising the land is critical for the health of the natural environment as well as the continued safety of the community,” he said.
“Council values the city’s coastal assets, including our many foreshore areas on the island, and wants to ensure these spaces are protected for future generations to enjoy.
“Council thanks the community for their patience during the works process and looks forward to welcoming everyone back to the area soon.”
The project is due for completion by the end of August 2025, subject to weather conditions.
