ABC Gardening Australia presenter Clarence Slockee will be a special guest at Redland City Council’s Environment and Community Fair at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre on Saturday 7 June 2025.
Clarence will team up with Council’s Principal Adviser – Community Education Ranger Stacey Thomson for an interactive Q&A session, and will also share his knowledge of native landscaping and edible plants at a workshop.
Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the Environment and Community Fair, which includes the popular Eco Markets, was held annually to celebrate World Environment Day.

“This fair is very much about supporting and caring for our natural environment, with opportunities to learn more about the work of local environmental and community organisations and Council’s Environment Education team.
“Visitors will also be able to browse a wide range of market stalls with eco-friendly and hand-crafted products to help us ‘end plastic pollution’, which is the theme for this year’s World Environment Day.
“There will be opportunities to explore ideas for more sustainable ways of living, and learn about recycling with our Waste Warriors and through Council’s ‘Let’s get it sorted’ campaign.
“The fair will provide memorable experiences for people of all ages, with family activities including a wildlife show, backyard bird calling competition and creating a ‘Great paper reef’ installation.
“We are delighted Clarence will be joining us and sharing his passion for native plants among the native botanic garden surrounds at IndigiScapes.”
Division 7 Councillor Rowanne McKenzie said the fair would include nature activities, environment education and outdoor play for all ages.
“There will be opportunities to get up close with local native wildlife, explore waterbugs, learn more about native bees, explore a hive and press honey, or participate in activities such as a weed weaving workshop or cooking damper on a stick over a campfire,” Cr McKenzie said.
“The suitcase rummage is always popular, and for young visitors, there will be Loose Parts and messy play, flora and fauna face art, energetic drum and dance, and stories and games with Council’s Libraries First Five Forever crew.
“Food will be available from the IndigiCafe, food and coffee vans as well as fresh produce stalls, while enjoying live music and roving entertainment.”
The IndigiScapes Environment Centre and gift shop, nature trails and playground will be open and, for those in need of an indoor quiet space, the IndigiScapes theatrette will have a digital photographic exhibition capturing local native flora and fauna of the Redlands Coast.
The Native Community Nursery will also be open for advice on native plants for the garden.
The Environment and Community Fair will be held from 9am to 2pm on Saturday 7 June 2025 at Redlands IndigiScapes Centre, 17 Runnymede Road, Capalaba.
Parking is via the nursery entry at 15 Runnymede Road, Capalaba.
