The talents of Redlands Coast’s music community are in the spotlight after Redland City Choir’s success at the World Choir Games in New Zealand, where the ensemble claimed two major accolades.

The group, which is a member of the Redland City Council-backed Companies in Residence program at Redland Performing Arts Centre (RPAC), earned a Silver Diploma Level Five and won third place in the Open Pop Choir Section.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said these accolades were an outstanding achievement for the choir given it was their first foray into competing at an international-level event.

“On behalf of our community I extend congratulations to every member of the choir for doing Redlands Coast proud on the world stage,” she said.

“The thing I find most inspiring about Redland City Choir is that they cater for singers of all ages and abilities.

“Their current ensemble consists of members aged eight to almost 90 years old, and they all contribute equally to the success of the group.

“Each member is a wonderful ambassador for not only Redlands Coast, but the whole of south-east Queensland and Australia, and I can’t wait to see what they achieve next.”

Redland City Choir has been a member of the Companies in Residence program at RPAC since 2017, rehearsing at the venue every Tuesday night and often performing at Redlands Coast events.

The Companies in Residence program was established by Council to help grow the arts on Redlands Coast and support groups that make positive contributions in the community.

Redland City Choir Director Anita Taylor said the ensemble was immensely proud of their achievements at the World Games.

“Competing on an international stage was a dream come true for us, and these awards are a testament to the hard work, passion and unity of our choir members,” she said.

“We are excited to bring this success back to our community and continue sharing our love of music.”
