Council recognises Indigenous health and education advocate

Donisha Duff was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for her contributions to the community.

Redland City Council has recognised the achievements of an Indigenous health and education advocate who was named on the 2024 Australia Day Honours List.

Redlands Coast resident Donisha Duff was formally acknowledged at this week’s General Meeting after receiving a Medal of the Order of Australia (OAM) for service to the community.

Ms Duff is the current Director and Chair of Stars Foundation, which provides support programs and mentoring to Indigenous girls and young women, and serves as the Chief Operating Officer with the Institute for Urban Indigenous Health.

Her other active roles include Adjunct Associate Professor with the Centre for Indigenous Australian Education and Research at Edith Cowan University, and Director of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communications and consulting business Mode Black.

She served as a Board Director of the Metro South Hospital and Health Service in 2016, and was a Council Member with the Australian Institute for Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Studies between 2015-2020.

She has also worked with the Roberta Sykes Indigenous Education Foundation, where she served as Director from 2012-2016 and Foundation Fellow to Harvard University in 2014.

Other Redlands Coast recipients of 2024 Australia Day Honours were Dr Vicki Flenady AM of Coochiemudlo Island, James Niven OAM of Birkdale and Redlands Coast bowls representative Joan Brotherton OAM. They were formally acknowledged at the 21 February meeting.
