Redlanders are being urged to review the State Government’s draft SEQ Regional Plan that was released for public comment today.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said it was important locals got involved by viewing and commenting on the State Government’s new regional planning framework, ShapingSEQ.
“This State Government’s blueprint will provide 50 year vision and a 25 year plan for the region, identifying where future populations will be housed, where jobs will be and how the region will maintain its unique character,” she said.

“As the region’s overarching plan, the SEQ Regional Plan includes projections on population growth in Redland City and where the State Government anticipates these extra people will live and work.
“Although the Redlands is expected to have rather modest growth when compared to other SEQ Councils, it is vital residents, businesses and community groups view the draft plan and provide feedback so they can be part of our city’s future.
Public notification period of the draft SEQ Regional Plan will occur until 3 March 2017 and until then the State Government will be accepting written submissions on any aspect of the plan.
“One of the areas I will be looking closely at is whether the Draft SEQ Regional Plan matches the State Government’s Infrastructure plan, particularly in relation to transport.
“Redlanders have told me they are concerned State Government population projections are not matched by State Government transport plans, so this is something I will be paying particular attention to in the draft plan.
“It is also why Redland City Council put a motion to the LGAQ Conference today calling for the State Government to take more responsibility for transport planning.”
The State Government will be holding two consultation sessions in the Redlands – Tuesday 29 November, 4pm to 7pm at Pacific Resort, Cleveland and Wednesday 7 December, 10am to 1pm at Capalaba Place Hall.
