Redland City Council will host the third annual Tech Savvy Tech Safe Forum at Alexandra Hills in September to help educate the Redlands Coast community about keeping children safe online.
The forum will be held on the evening of Wednesday 9 September and will coincide with National Child Protection Week, which encourages the community to play an active role in supporting the safety and wellbeing of children and young people.
Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the free forum was again being delivered in partnership with key agencies such as the Queensland Police Service, Centre Against Sexual Violence, Kids Helpline, and the Australian Federal Police/ThinkUKnow.
“Cyber safety requires a whole-of-community approach and it’s our parents, guardians and carers who have the most important role to play in keeping children and young people safe online,” Cr Talty said.
“This free forum is a valuable opportunity to hear from experts about prevention strategies, how to recognise inappropriate online behaviour, and where to seek support if needed.
“With the online environment changing rapidly and children and young people spending more time on their devices, it has never been more important to focus on cyber safety.
“This forum is a must for all Redland parents who want to learn about the practical steps they can take to protect their children from cyberbullying, extortion, and other online safety risks.”
The event will be held at the Alexandra Hills Hotel and Conference Centre, 332 Finucane Road, on Wednesday 9 September from 5.30pm–7.30pm.
Admission is free but bookings are essential through Eventbrite.
Due to the nature of the forum’s content, entry is restricted to people aged 15 years and older.
Counsellors will be available at the event to assist where required.
Attendees are encouraged to arrive early, with key agencies to have information stands available in the foyer prior to the start of the forum.
