Media Update: Cyclone Marcia (Redlands) as at 8:00am

Please see below the latest media update from the Redlands for your consideration for immediate broadcast.

Redland City Residents are being warned of torrential rain expected to arrive from mid-morning today as ex Tropic Cyclone Marcia tracks south.

The Bureau of Meteorology are forecasting up to 200 mm of rainfall on top of the rain received yesterday.

Some local creeks and waterways are already swollen and the large amounts of rain are expected to impact roads across the Redlands, with the potential for road closures, downed trees and interruptions to services throughout the day.

Residents are reminded that tidal surges combined with extreme rainfall and large tides (high-tide is at 11.32am) have the potential to impact coastal and low-lying areas.

Council and SES crews are on the ground assessing at risk areas and will door-knock if required.

Below is the most up to date information.

Road closures

  • Allan Day Drive, Wellington Point
  • Avalon Rd, Sheldon

Water is over the road

  • South St, Cleveland (near Special School)
  • Sturgeon St – Wellington Point and Ormiston
  • Sturgeon St – dog off leash carpark
  • Tulloch & Redgrove Intersection, Wellington Point
  • Anson Road, Wellington Point
  • Mary Street, Birkdale

All motorists are asked to take care on the roads and remember if it’s flooded forget it.

State-wide road closure information is available by calling 131 940 or visit http://131940.qld.gov.au.

Sandbags

The sandbagging station set up at the Redland Showground (Norm Price Park), Long Street, Cleveland will open from 9.00am this morning for residents wishing to collect sandbags.

Only residents with mobility issues should call SES on 132 500 for assistance.

Ferry services

All ferry services are currently running, but passengers are advised that services could be suspended at any time so please check for updates.
