Get the facts: postal voting still available at next election

An article in the Redland City Bulletin on Wednesday 19 November entitled “Council denies electors postal voting option” incorrectly reported that residents would not have the option to postal vote in the March 2016 Local Government election.

Council wishes to reassure residents that their voting options for the 2016 election remain the same as previous elections and will continue to include pre-polling, absentee voting, voting at polling booths and postal voting.

The story incorrectly refers to an item at Council’s general meeting on Wednesday 12 November. At this meeting Council voted against a motion to investigate allowing postal votes only for island residents at the next election, which would have removed the option for island residents to go to a polling booth.

Council voted against this motion, meaning all residents will still have all voting options in the 2016 Local government elections. At no time has Council considered a proposal to remove postal voting as a voting option.
