Redlanders are being urged to be bushfire ready with weather conditions over the coming days resulting in a heightened risk of bushfires.
Redland City Mayor and Chair of the Local Disaster Management Group Cr Karen Williams said the heightened level of bushfire risk had led to Wildfire Alert 2 status being declared.
“The declaration of Wildfire Alert 2 status represents a heightened state of readiness from Council and Queensland Fire and Emergency Services with weather conditions from today and over the next few days expected to contribute to a greater risk of bushfire,” she said.

“While the elevated alert status is precautionary, it is a reminder to everyone that they should remain vigilant and take steps now to ensure they are prepared should there be a fire.
“This includes reviewing their bushfire plans and discussing the situation with their friends and family.”
Council’s disaster management and prevention spokesperson Cr Alan Beard said the heightened fire warning was a sign of things to come with a hot and dry summer expected.
“Council attended a briefing last week where the Bureau of Meteorology said expected higher temperatures and low rainfall over the coming months were likely to contribute to a higher than average risk of Bushfire this summer,” he said.
“This is a reminder to all residents to not wait until a fire to make the necessary preparations and decisions; they should take the necessary steps now to ensure they are prepared.
“People should also listen to the radio stay connected to Council and QFES social media channels for any updates.”
