Redland City Council is pleased to announce a partnership with a local community group to ensure the fun run continues.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said Run for Redlands – 48-hour Charity Festival Inc was successful in securing sponsorship of $10,000 toward holding 5km and 10km fun runs as part of the festival through Council’s Sponsorship Program.

“Partnering with an existing local event by sponsoring specific categories allows the run to continue without the same level of financial commitment from Council, who until this year has run the event,” she said.

Cr Williams congratulated Division 4 Councillor Lance Hewlett, Nigel Hyland and the executive committee of Run for Redlands as well as Bayside Runners and Walkers group for recognising the opportunity to incorporate elements of the Koala Fun Run into the 48-hour charity festival.

Cr Hewlett said the koala preservation message would now be spread across a whole weekend rather than be limited to just 1.5 hours under the existing fun run format.

“This is an example of how we can be more effective and efficient in the way Council spends ratepayers’ money,” Cr Hewlett said.

The Run for Redlands – 48-hour Charity Festival is scheduled to be held at the Victoria Point Sporting Club from May 23–25. Proceeds will go the Redlands Hospital’s Paediatric Unit and the Redlands Centre for Women.

Major sponsor is the Victoria Point branch of the Bendigo Bank
