Due to a change in wind direction, smoke from the bushfire on North Stradbroke Island is now affecting mainland suburbs.

Here are some tips on staying safe and healthy in smoky conditions:

– Minimise your physical activity outdoors.
– If you have an air conditioner, turn it on and switch it to recycle or re-circulate.
– If your home gets too hot for comfort or is letting in a lot of smoky air, visit an air-conditioned shopping centre, restaurant, cinema or library (Redland Libraries re-open 9am tomorrow, 2 January).
– Anyone experiencing breathing problems or chest pain should seek medical advice immediately.
