Redland City Council reminds the community that sandbagging stations are available if required during heavy rainfall.
The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting the possibility of between 40mm and 100mm for the Moreton Bay Island areas today, Monday 18 May 2026.
Between 8pm Sunday and noon today, 64.4mm of rainfall was recorded at Alexandra Hills, 61mm at Point Lookout, 56mm at Giles Road and 95mm on Macleay Island.
The following mainland sandbagging stations are available year-round to assist with preparations:
- Thorneside, William Taylor Memorial Sportsfield, 14–18 Ivy Street. Open 24/7.
- Cleveland, Clarke Street, opposite cemetery entrance gate. Open 24/7.
- Redland Bay, Bayview Conservation Park Staging Area, 487-503 German Church Road. Open from 6.30am to 6pm daily.
Residents can collect up to 10 bags per vehicle, per trip. This is to ensure there is enough supply for everyone.
The following self-service sandbagging stations are operational on the islands (sand and bags are supplied. Please bring your own shovel):
- Dunwich, Council Depot, 11-37 Mitchell Crescent, North Stradbroke Island.
- Russell Island, Council Depot, 6 Cambridge Road.
- Macleay Island, Council Depot, 22-24 Scarborough Terrace.
- Lamb Island, Council Shed, 12 Lucas Drive.
- Coochiemudlo Island, Fire Station, 45 Elizabeth Street.
- Karragarra Island, Rural Fire Station, 11 Noyes Parade.
Enclosed shoes are required to be worn at all Council sandbagging stations.
Council reminds residents that sandbags from previous weather events can be re-used, as long as they haven’t been contaminated by floodwater, oil, sewage or other contaminants.
