Redland City is wooing international investors with a delegation of Chinese businessmen visiting this week to discuss potential investment opportunities.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the visit included a Beijing-based investor and came on the back of her recent business mission to Asia.

“While I was in Asia I spoke with a number of people about potential investment opportunities in the Redlands, including our two Priority Development Area projects,” she said.

“It is fantastic to see that these discussions have had an immediate impact with an investor and his business associates I met in Beijing visiting the Redlands less than a week after my return.

“During the visit, which occurred on Wednesday 9 October, the investor explored Cleveland and the Toondah Harbour Priority Development Area, Weinam Creek PDA and showed an interest in other potential development sites within our city.

“The group also inspected Redlands’ marine facilities with a view to potential export of marine expertise to China.

“The visitors were very impressed with the potential for investment and further discussions are expected to occur in the near future.”

Cr Williams said a second international investor would also visit Redland City in the next week to investigate potential opportunities, showing the city’s Open for Business policy was on track.

“In addition to our two PDAs at Toondah Harbour and Weinam Creek, there are also a number of residential developments that are attractive to both Australian and international investors,” she said.

“We are also seeing some exciting opportunities in the Cleveland CBD with two key buildings being bought by investors recently, indicating a growing confidence in the city.

“The combination of all of this investment and development activity shows that the Redlands is again punching above its weight in terms of investment activity.”

Cr Williams said the recent interest complemented a number of initiatives launched by Council to generate investment, including a new website designed to woo investors, www.redlandsopenforbusiness.com.au
