Redland City Council is urging Redlands residents and visitors, particularly to our islands, to be prepared for fire this week due to high temperatures and winds.
A Level 2 Alert for fire in the Redlands was declared today. This is the highest alert possible, without a fire already burning.
North Stradbroke Island, in peak tourist season and with high levels of fuel, is particularly at risk. There are already two fire trucks on the island and another tanker ready to be dispatched if necessary.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said that Council is working closely with the Queensland Fire Service to monitor and prepare.
“Council officers are fully briefed and ready to respond immediately should fire break out,” Cr Williams said.
Council warns residents and holidaymakers:
- There is no safe fire and small careless acts, such as flicking a cigarette butt out of a car window, can result in disaster.
- Be prepared to evacuate your island homes, caravans or tents should there be a fire.
- Camping in non-camping areas is dangerous should there be fire through bushland.
- Residents should review or prepare their family emergency plan, identify a safe place to evacuate to and consider pets.
- Residents should also ensure things that can burn are well away from their homes and there is easy fire truck access. Check water systems, pumps and generators are working and that your battery operated radio is in working order.
All Redland residents and visitors, on the mainland and islands, need to be prepared to act quickly in the event of a fire and look after those around them, particularly the elderly, young and immobile.
