It is important we correct a report in the Redland Times on Friday 2 November. The paper reported that on Wednesday 31 October Council overturned a previous Council decision to block the Mount Cotton Biomass power station.
At the General Meeting, Council resolved to continue its negotiations with Cleveland Power and seek the best possible outcome for the community with the Mount Cotton Biomass project.
Council’s decision has not approved the biomass facility or resolved the current court proceedings, which have been adjourned by the Planning and Environment Court.
The decision agreed to adjourn the current proceedings so Cleveland Power could make a separate application to the Court to clarify inconsistencies in the approval.
At all times the Court is the decision maker responsible for assessing the biomass facility.
Council’s decision is to ensure the best possible outcome for the community in terms of plant design, air quality and other environmental safeguards, and potentially save ratepayers many thousands of dollars in legal fees.
