Redland City Council will investigate installing shark nets at Raby Bay foreshore following today’s General Council Meeting.
Division 2 Councillor Craig Ogilvie today tabled a notice of motion asking Council to prepare a report into the possibility of installing the shark nets to provide a safe swimming location.
“Raby Bay Foreshore is a popular place for locals and tourists so it makes sense for Council to look at how we can make it as safe as possible for those who frequent the area,” he said.

“While I don’t want to cause alarm or suggest the area is not currently safe, I have been approached by some people who are nervous about sharks so this is a chance to have a look at what can be done.
“It would be a shame if there were people who don’t feel comfortable to enjoy our beautiful bay.”
Cr Ogilvie said the Council report would include financial implications so Council could then consider the possibility of including shark nets in future capital works program.
“At this stage all we are doing is having a look at the possibility of installing shark nets, nothing has been decided and we will see what the reports tell us before proceeding any further.”
