A team-building exercise by Redland City Council’s Environmental Health crew has raised $1500 to promote non-violence and mutual respect among young people.

The proceeds of the month-long event, which involved selling chocolates, merchandise and raffle tickets and culminated in a big morning tea, will go to the Matthew Stanley Foundation.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said she was particularly proud of Service Manager Health and Environment Jen Gisler and her team for supporting such a worthy local cause.

“The team selected the Matthew Stanley Foundation, formed in the aftermath of the 15-year-old’s death after being bashed outside a party, in the hope that they can help make a real difference in promoting mutual respect among young people,’’ Cr Williams said.

“What started as a team boosting exercise has resulted in a substantial contribution to our community.

“The team set a goal to raise $1000 for the work of the Matthew Stanley Foundation and was ecstatic to exceed that and make $1500.

“It will go a long way to helping the foundation and I would like to thank staff across Redland City Council for getting involved and making donations.

“The Environmental Health Team would particularly like to thank Paul Stanley (father of Matthew Stanley) for attending the morning tea and sharing part of his story.’’
