Finalists in the prestigious biennial Redland Art Awards have been announced, with their work to go on display at Redland Art Gallery (RAG), Cleveland, from 29 November.

Winners of the primary award, runner-up awards and the member’s choice, will be announced at a gala opening event at RAG on Friday 27 November.

Redland City Acting Mayor Julie Talty said the biennial awards for painting received nearly 450 entries this year from across Australia, from which the 50 finalists were selected.

“The finalists – including eight from Redlands Coast – will have their work showcased during an exhibition at Redland Art Gallery from late November,” Cr Talty said.

“There is a stunning variety of unique perspectives and artistic painting styles among the works and it will be a must-see exhibition.

“The number of entries this year represents more than a 10 per cent increase over the number of submissions for 2024.”

The awards have a total prize pool of more than $30,000, with the primary award winner’s artwork being acquired for the Redland Art Gallery Collection.

The exhibition of finalists’ work will be held at RAG Cleveland from Sunday 29 November 2026 to Friday 22 January 2027.

Judging the 2026 Redland Art Awards will be Alison Kubler, Editor-in-Chief of Australasian art and culture magazine VAULT. Ms Kubler is a member of the Queensland Art Gallery Board of Trustees, and Principal of Renshaw & Kubler Art Consultants.

She will select and announce the major award, second and third prize winners from the exhibition of artwork from the 50 finalists.

The finalists were deliberated over by pre-selection judging panel members Warraba Weatherall (Brisbane-based artist, lecturer and PhD candidate), Dr Holly Arden (art historian, writer, curator and educator), and Naomi Takeifanga (Director, Exhibitions at Museum of Brisbane and senior cultural leader).
