Ormiston resident Peter Delibaltas has been recognised at this week’s General Meeting of Council after being awarded a Public Service Medal (PSM) in the King’s Birthday Honours list.

Mr Delibaltas was one of 114 Queenslanders included on the 2025 list, receiving the PSM for outstanding service in the delivery of legal aid to disadvantaged and vulnerable community members.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said Mr Delibaltas had worked for decades in the public sector and was highly deserving of the PSM.

“Mr Delibaltas is known among his peers as an innovative leader, having successfully advocated for additional funding and organisational changes that have delivered benefits for LAQ’s clients and staff.

“Throughout his career, he has also provided or supported legal services for people impacted by natural disasters and clients who have appeared before the Royal Commissions into Disability, and Defence and Veterans Suicide.

“His other career achievements include contributing to First Nations initiatives at LAQ, helping to advance a graduate program for emerging lawyers, and ensuring the continuity of LAQ’s essential services to support clients during natural disasters and lockdowns for COVID-19.”

The Mayor said Mr Delibaltas was known as an authentic and motivational manager who led with empathy and humility.

“After 35 years with LAQ, he still embodies the values and culture of the organisation and remains just as dedicated to making a difference in the lives of his clients today as when he started in the role,” she said.

“Mr Delibaltas has joined an inspiring list of people whose actions have enriched our community, and on behalf of Council, I congratulate him for achieving this incredible accolade and thank him for his ongoing service.”
