The next exhibitions at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland feature works inspired by skyward visions and coastal adventures on Redlands Coast.

Works by Brisbane artists Paula Irene Payne and Jordan Azcune reflect their time spent in and around Redlands Coast, but through different lenses.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the exhibitions, which open on Sunday 25 June 2023, presented different perspectives on local landscapes.

“We are blessed with such beautiful and varied landscapes on Redlands Coast and these artistic interpretations of our natural surroundings present colours and patterns that vary from the most subtle to stark experimental processes,” Cr Williams said.

“The exhibitions continue to reflect the calibre of artists presented through Redland Art Gallery and allow you to enjoy the unique features of Redlands Coast in a whole new way.”

In View From the Edge, Payne presents paintings that respond to environmental themes and personal stories.

Her works draw on memories of long voyages across the sea, from Australia to England, and from weekends spent kayaking close to the shores along Redlands Coast.

Other works in the exhibition explore the shared expansiveness of the ocean and the night sky.

The natural surroundings are a strong feature in Azcune’s Green sky, orange clouds, purple rain.

He spent his first 20 years on Redlands Coast and, in this exhibition, he reinterprets this connection through colour, form and experimental processes.

Applying his signature use of beeswax, Azcune explores abstracted, hyper-coloured patterns and low relief sculptures.

Jordan Azcune’s work ‘Coming in the Clouds (purple rain)’.

An opening event for both exhibitions will be held at Redland Art Gallery, Cleveland on Friday 23 June, from 6pm.

The exhibitions will be open to the public during gallery hours from Sunday 25 June to Sunday 13 August 2023.

A floor talk with the artists and visual art consultant Beth Jackson, including morning tea, will be held at 10am on Sunday 25 June 2023.

Bookings are essential for the exhibition opening and floor talk. For more information and to register, visit artgallery.redland.qld.gov.au
