A broad range of businesses and organisations have already committed to attend Redland City Council’s inaugural Redlands Coast Careers Expo in June.

Mayor Karen Williams said the free expo at Alexandra Hills Hotel would provide people of all ages with a one-stop shop to explore education and employment pathways.

“The event is intended to help residents who are pondering their career options, so having the right exhibitors and sponsors is important,” she said.

“The expo also provides a perfect opportunity for education and career specialists and other organisations to promote their products and services in a meaningful and engaging way.

“There is still time for businesses and organisations to secure a spot at the expo.

“Already we have commitments from universities and training organisations, Defence Force recruiting, career coaching, and businesses focusing on innovative technology such as robots, solar technology and an electric bus.

“We hope to offer ideas and incentives for people who might be returning to the workforce after an absence, as well as inspiration for tradespeople looking to upskill.

“Council is also collaborating with local schools and we anticipate the expo will be especially helpful for senior students exploring further study or career and work opportunities.

“For the wider community, it’s a fun way to find out about new and popular pathways now available.”

Cr Williams said the expo was being organised to a COVID-safe plan and would also be available as a digital tour in case of lockdown.

“An innovative aspect of the expo is that people can explore it through augmented reality on their smartphones, as well as in person,” she said.

All attendees, either in person or virtual mode, will have access to a “digital goodie bag” offering a range of discounts, vouchers and information.

Attendees who explore the event through augmented reality will go in the draw to win an Apple iPad.

The Redlands Coast Careers Expo is sponsored by Regional Development Australia Logan & Redlands and Redland City Bulletin.

Businesses and organisations interested in exhibiting can register online until 14 May 2021 through the Redlands Coast website.
