Mayor Williams caught up with Josie for a cuddle at Redland Animal Shelter. Josie’s still waiting for her fur-ever home.

“Valentine’s Day is all about showing how much love we have to share and what better way to help share the love than by adopting a pet,” she said.

“Just like people, animals thrive in a loving home and there are many animals looking for that second chance.

“Animals can teach us a lot about unconditional love and the right pet can be the perfect companion for singles, families and the elderly.”

Cr Williams said pet ownership came with responsibility and it was important that people did their research before choosing a new animal friend.

“Pets have ongoing costs and need regular veterinary care so they remain protected from parasites and disease,” she said.

“All animals available for adoption from Council’s shelter have had a full health and behaviour assessment, flee and worm prevention treatment and are desexed, vaccinated, microchipped and heartworm tested (or FIV tested for cats).

Dumpling (left) and Clover were happy to pose with their adoptive mums this week.

“Adoption fees are set to cover these costs and include six months registration.
“Finding the perfect match takes time, and staff at the shelter can help you choose a pet to suit your lifestyle.”

Redland Animal Shelter is located at 264 South Street, Thornlands and open from 8.30am to 4.30pm weekdays and 9am to noon on weekends.

Drop in to the shelter or visit its Facebook page to find your new pet this Valentine’s Day.
