Entries are now open for the prestigious Redland Art Awards – a contemporary painting prize coordinated by Redland Art Gallery.

Redland City Mayor Jos Mitchell said the biennial awards were open to all Australian artists and offered a total prize pool of $30,500.

“Redlands Coast is considered a significant regional arts centre with a thriving arts community and strong cultural appreciation,” the Mayor said.

“The Redland Art Awards are highly regarded and have been shining a light on outstanding Australian artists since 1981, when they began as a local art prize by Redland Yurara Art Society.

“The awards were first displayed at Redland Art Gallery in 2006 and have grown significantly since that time.

“The last awards in 2024 attracted more than 400 artworks Australia-wide, with 55 selected for the finalist’s exhibition, including nine artworks from local artists.

“As in previous years, the 2026 awards include a significant acquisitive prize, with the winning artwork to be acquired for the permanent Redland Art Gallery Collection.

“There will also be an exhibition featuring the works of all finalists.”

The Mayor said the awards accepted two-dimensional paintings in a range of media, including oil, acrylic and watercolour.

“Artists may submit up to three paintings for consideration, but only one work per artist will be eligible for final judging,” the Mayor said.

“There is always a rigorous selection process for these awards, led by high-profile industry experts.

“The lead judge in this year’s awards is Alison Kubler, who has more than 30 years’ experience working as an art curator and is a nationally recognised arts writer and editor.”

The Redland Art Awards prize pool includes a $20,000 acquisitive award for first prize, $6000 for second prize, $3000 for third prize, $1000 for the Meredith Foxton People’s Choice Award (sponsored by Redland Yurara Art Society) and $500 for the Redland Arts Membership Program (RAMP) Member’s Choice Award.
