As part of a newly endorsed Council strategy, the community will have input on how the city can provide more sustainable, equitable and efficient access to its key destinations into the future.

Redland City Council endorsed the Draft Redlands Coast Access and Parking Strategy at yesterday’s general meeting.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the strategy, which will go to public consultation in August, provides a blueprint for managing access and parking as the city prepares for future growth.

“The strategy is about giving people better choices and making sure the city’s destinations are safer, more inviting, and easier to access by all modes of transport,” the Mayor said.

“Redlands Coast is home to vibrant villages, town centres and destinations that play a vital role in our local economy and lifestyle.

“As our population grows and travel behaviour changes, it’s essential that we move towards a more balanced, accessible and sustainable transport system – one that works for everyone, not just those who drive.”

Transport Portfolio Councillor Shane Rendalls said that as Redlands Coast evolved, so too must its local transport network.

“There is much that can be done to improve the efficiency of car parking in the city to reflect people’s access needs, such as through management, regulation, and compliance,” Cr Rendalls said.

“There is scope to better use car parking to improve access and turnover.

“Destinations can be made more inviting and safer for pedestrians, cyclists, and people with disabilities, with space being allocated to enable improved access by public transport operators, for drop offs and ride share.”
