Redland City Council’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) is now at Lean Forward, following weather updates regarding the movement and predicted pathway of Tropical Cyclone Alfred.

The LDMG consists of a wide range of members, including Emergency Services but also key local contacts such as SeaLink, Queensland Parks and Wildlife, and Quandamooka Yoolooburrabee Aboriginal Corporation.

These parties are already connected and are working together to assess potential risks, prioritise the safety of all community members and visitors (including campers), and ensure ongoing, clear communication to residents and visitors.

Council is currently focussed on being prepared – we encourage our community and any visitors to:

  • Secure loose items like outdoor furniture, toys and trampolines, in their yard, or temporarily move them inside.
  • Prepare an emergency plan and kit with essentials such as water, medications, legal papers, first aid, a battery-operated radio, batteries, pet food, money and a torch. Ensure your phone is fully charged.
  • Check on your neighbours and ensure you are aware of each other’s plans. Have a plan for your pets.

Water transport:

Council has been advised that all passenger ferries and vehicle ferries to and from North Stradbroke Island, Coochiemudlo Island and the Southern Moreton Bay Islands are currently running. Residents and visitors should check with their ferry operator for changes. Operators have cyclone plans in place.
