Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred – Council operating times update 10am 10 March 2025

Council closures for Redlands Coast Ekka public holiday

Key messages:

  • Many in the Redlands are still facing precarious conditions, with widespread power and telecommunication outages affecting numerous households
  • Kerbside bin collections will resume today
  • Recycling and waste centres on the mainland remain closed until further notice
  • Recycling and waste centres on the bay islands re-opened today
  • The Cleveland, Capalaba and Victoria Point Libraries will be open today, along with the Cleveland Customer Service Centre and Redland Art Gallery
  • Other Council services will resume in a safe and staged approach
  • Further updates on closures will be published once safety assessments can be made
  • Redland City Council’s Local Disaster Management Group (LDMG) will remain at Stand Up, closely following weather updates.

Today Council’s Call Centre will be open from 6am – 6pm with additional officers ready to take calls as our community continues recovering from Ex-tropical Cyclone Alfred.

After 6pm, emergency calls to our 24-hour number (07) 3829 8999 will still be answered through Council’s afterhours process.

Waste Services

Kerbside bin collection services will resume today. Missed services will be collected during the next collection period.

Recycling and waste centres on the mainland remain closed until further notice

Recycling and waste centres on the bay islands re-opened at 10am today. Macleay, Russell and North Stradbroke islands centres are open 10am – 4pm, Coochiemudlo Island 10am – 2pm, Karragarra and Lamb islands remain open 24/7.

Customer Service Centres

All mainland customer service centres will return to normal hours from today.

Redlands Coast Visitor Information Centre

The Visitor Information Centre at 50 Middle Street, Cleveland, will remain closed today. Re-opening hours will depend on weather conditions. Phone 1300 667 386 or email [email protected] before attending.

Wildlife Rescue Service

The Redlands 24-hour Wildlife Rescue Service remains closed until further notice. Calls will be diverted to the RSPCA.

For wildlife support during this time please reach out to the RSPCA on 1300 264 625.

Cleveland Aquatic Centre

All pools and the centre remain closed. Updates will be posted on the Cleveland Aquatic Centre Facebook page.

Bay Island Aquatic Centre, Russell Island

The centre remains closed until further notice.

Community Halls

All hall bookings across Redland City will remain current. Individual hirers should evaluate whether to cancel their event. If a hall is required as an Evacuation Centre, Council will notify the contact who has booked the space.

Libraries

The Cleveland, Capalaba and Victoria Point Libraries will be open today and their return chutes will be available as usual.

The Dunwich, Point Lookout and Russell Island Libraries remain closed.

The Mobile Library stops for this week are also cancelled.

Loans and holds: Due dates have been extended to Thursday 13 March for any loans and holds that were to be collected between Wednesday 5 March and Wednesday 12 March.

Holds currently available for pickup at the 24-7 Lockers will remain in the lockers.

All scheduled library programs from tomorrow are cancelled, as are all library meeting room bookings, until further notice.

Home deliveries scheduled for this week are postponed until next week.

The Digital Library is available as long as communications services continue. Log into Libby and Borrowbox with your library membership to download eBooks, eAudiobooks and eMagazines. Library member services Freegal Music and Kanopy allow unlimited streaming as well as limited downloads of music, movies and TV series.

Redland Performing Arts Centre

RPAC remains closed with the Box Office expected to reopen on Tuesday. Please check Redland Performing Arts Centre Facebook page for further changes or updates to performance schedules.

Redland Art Gallery

Redland Art Gallery will reopen today.

Redland Animal Shelter

The shelter will remain closed today. Please check the Facebook page, Animal Shelter – Redland City Council, for updates.

Redlands IndigiScapes Centre

All centre operations, including the IndigiCafe, botanic gardens, walking tracks and native nursery will remain closed today. Updates will be posted to the Facebook page, IndigiScapes Centre – Redland City Council.

Tracks and Trails

All tracks and trails remain closed. With a high risk of falling branches, we ask the community not to use tracks and trails across the city until advised further.
