UPDATE Monday 10 March 2025: Places of refuge remain OPEN tonight Monday 10 March
The below nominated places of refuge will remain open tonight as a short-term measure for residents who are unable to take refuge elsewhere while we are still experiencing severe weather caused from Ex-Tropical Cyclone Alfred.
Places of refuge are not evacuation centres – they should be used as a last resort. We strongly recommend people seek refuge with friends and family in the first instance when safe to do so.
They will contain basic amenities only and no food. The refuges are not able to admit pets.
Places of refuge are located at:
📍 ALEXANDRA HILLS: Alexandra Hills Community Hall, 131-155 Finucane Road
📍 NORTH STRADBROKE ISLAND: Dunwich Community Hall, 6 Ballow Road
📍 MACLEAY ISLAND: Macleay Island Community Hall, cnr Southsea Terrace and High Central Road
📍 RUSSELL ISLAND: BIMSARA Hall, 2 Union Street
📍 LAMB ISLAND: Pioneer Hall, 125 Lucas Drive
Residents heading to the refuges are to bring essentials only – for example: essential personal items, medications, phone, wallet/purse, keys, some form of identification, drinking water and non-perishable food.
Alcohol will not be permitted.
Please be aware that road access may be limited.
