Young and old can harness their Christmas creativity through a free festive program at Redlands Coast libraries.

It is part of a city-wide Christmas on Redlands Coast program that also includes a series of magical events at Redland Performing Arts Centre, Festive Friday Flicks, an augmented reality Christmas Trail, an interactive colouring competition, Santa’s Hotline and lighting displays at four locations.

For the grown-ups, Create and Connect is a series of free, beginner-friendly arts and craft workshops held regularly at all Redland City libraries, including Point Lookout and Russell Island.

This year it includes a variety of festive crafts that are new to the program, where participants can make Frosty wool gnomes, cosy Christmas gnomes, jolly paintbrush Santas and Christmas button art.

While free, participants need to book a place. No previous skills are needed and all materials are provided.

Festive craft activities include making Christmas gnomes.

In the run up to Christmas, the libraries’ school holiday programs include some special sessions where young Redlanders can craft gift cards, snow globes, Christmas sand art and felt stockings.

Again, while free, bookings are essential and children 12 years and under must be supervised by a parent or carer. All materials are provided.

Also mark down Thursday 19 December, when Mrs Claus will drop in to Capalaba Library to share her favourite Christmas stories and rhymes along with a festive craft with children aged two to five years. It’s free and there’s no need to book.

For more information on these events, visit the library what’s on webpage and, for more information about Christmas on Redlands Coast, visit redland.qld.gov.au/christmas.
