Redland City Council is once again embracing the season of giving by opening its mainland libraries to gift donations in support of the STAR Community Services Secret Santa appeal.

Mayor Jos Mitchell said the annual appeal provided an opportunity for the community to support senior residents who may be spending the holiday season alone.

“The community can make a gift donation at Council’s mainland libraries in Capalaba, Cleveland and Victoria Point until Monday 18 December,” the Mayor said.

“Council has supported the appeal since its inception in 2019 and is pleased to be participating once again this year.

“The appeal is a fantastic opportunity for the community to come together and show our senior residents that we are thinking of them.

“A gift can make a world of difference for people who are alone at Christmas, so please join us in supporting the drive by donating at one of the participating libraries.”

STAR CEO Patsy Wilshire said the appeal supported senior residents who were isolated and felt forgotten.

“Your gift and online donations are bringing happiness to those seniors who may not have anyone in their life,” Ms Wilshire said.

“Thank you to Redland City Council Libraries and the Redlands Coast community for your heartfelt support.

“Last year, one of the hamper recipients told us she put the gift next to her TV without opening it, so she could just look at it.

“It gave her joy that someone had thought of her.”

Suggested gift ideas include socks, coffee, towels, vouchers, pamper packs, hand cream, fruit cake, tea cups, crockery and household goods.

Council’s mainland libraries are located at:

  • Capalaba – mobile library, Capalaba Place, Noeleen Street until 9 November; Capalaba Central, 38-62 Moreton Bay Road from 11 November
  • Cleveland – on the corner of Bloomfield and Middle streets
  • Victoria Point – in Lakeside Shopping Centre, 7-15 Bunker Road.

Other drop-off locations across Redlands Coast are listed on STAR Community Services’ website at starcommunityservices.org.au.
