Redland City Council’s sandbagging stations remain open ahead of potential heavy rain this week.
The Bureau of Meteorology says heavy showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop from today(Monday 29 January 2024), with locally intense falls forecast for south-east Queensland from this evening and during Tuesday.
Redlands Coast is forecast to potentially receive up to 100mm of rain tomorrow, and up to 35mm on Wednesday, bringing an increased risk of flash flooding.

In response, Council will keep sandbagging stations open but reminds residents to limit themselves to 10 free sandbags to ensure there are enough for everyone. Already, close to 5000 sandbags have been issued and demand is expected to still be strong as more residents prepare for the forecast wet weather.
Non-hessian sandbags can be reused more than once, so if you already have some there is no need to replace them with new ones.

- THORNLANDS, NUWAY LANDSCAPE SUPPLIES – 249 Cleveland-Redland Bay Road, Thornlands (Click here for directions). Proof of identification/residential location required (ie Driver Licence or rates notice). OPEN: 6.30am to 5pm Monday to Friday.
- CLEVELAND COUNCIL DEPOT – 199-205 South Street, Cleveland (Click here for directions). Pre-filled sandbags available in the visitor car park. OPEN: 7am to 6pm daily.
The following 24-hour self-service sandbagging stations remain open on the islands:
- DUNWICH, COUNCIL DEPOT – 11-37 Mitchell Cres, Dunwich, North Stradbroke Island (Click here for directions) Sand and bags supplied. Please take your own shovel.
- RUSSELL ISLAND, COUNCIL DEPOT – 6 Cambridge Rd, Russell Island (Click here for directions). Sand and bags supplied. Please take your own shovel.
- MACLEAY ISLAND, COUNCIL DEPOT – 22-24 Scarborough Rd, Macleay Island (Click here for directions) Sand and bags supplied. Please take your own shovel.
- COOCHIEMUDLO ISLAND, MEN’S SHED – pre-filled sandbags available. Laurie Burns Sportsfields, 43-45 Elizabeth Street, (Click here for directions).
(note: enclosed shoes must be worn at all Council sandbagging stations)
