Eight community projects that bring people together and showcase Redlands Coast communities have been awarded funding through the 2022-23 Village Events and Activation Grant Program.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the program was developed to support initiatives that enhanced local villages and encouraged people to live, work and play on Redlands Coast.

“This grants program is place-based, funding not-for-profit organisations and local traders to deliver events and activities that bring people together,” Cr Williams said.

“This round includes three community Christmas events, to be held in the villages of Mount Cotton, Redland Bay and Wellington Point.

“Each of these events will support local traders in a festive format that encourages families, friends and visitors to spend time on Redlands Coast.

“Other events supported through the program include Art my Word, a weekend-long art and literature event on Macleay Island, and Diwali Celebration (Festival of Light) at Birkdale, a traditional Indian cultural experience where everyone is welcome.”

Cr Williams said the grants were another way for Council to support communities to provide more fun and engaging events and activities for residents and visitors.

“Each of the projects approved in this round will draw people together to enjoy spending time in our villages across a range of activities while also supporting our local traders and non-profit organisations,” she said.
