Redlands Local Disaster Management Group Chair and Redland City Mayor Karen Williams has thanked the Redlands Coast SES volunteers for their tireless efforts throughout the extreme rainfall impacting Redlands Coast.
Throughout the weather event, Redlands Coast SES Units have received more than 200 calls for assistance, volunteering around the clock to attend to calls for service as quickly as possible.
Residents are asked to be patient with the city’s SES volunteers as they prioritise emergency and life-threatening jobs.

General assistance from the SES may take some time, but crews are attending to requests as soon as they can.
For trees that have fallen on private property, or for other assistance, the SES can be contacted on 132 500.
Sandbagging
Redland City Council has extended its sandbagging operations to Monday 28 February.
Council’s sandbagging stations for the community have given out more than 5000 bags since opening on Wednesday, and can be found at the following locations (enclosed shoes must be worn):
- Council Depot Cleveland: 199-205 South Street – open until 6pm today, and from 7am to 6pm, Monday 28 February.
- Council Depot Dunwich: 11-37 Mitchell Crescent, Dunwich, North Stradbroke Island (Minjerribah) – open 24/7
- Council Depot Russell Island: 6 Cambridge Road, Russell Island – open 24/7
- Council Depot Macleay Island: 22-24 Scarborough Road, Macleay Island – open 24/7
Flood debris
With reports of large amounts of debris, including logs, trees, concrete and metal, making its way through the river systems and into Moreton Bay, people are asked to stay out of swollen waterways, and boat owners are urged to reconsider the need to head out into the bay at this time.
Roads
Weather conditions continue to cause hazards on the city’s roads, and motorists are urged to stay off the roads and out of flood waters this evening – if it’s flooded, forget it!

- Allan Day Drive, Wellington Point
- Mary Street, Birkdale
- Collingwood Road, Birkdale (Cnr Spoonbill Street)

- Moores Road, Redland Bay
- Shore Street West, Cleveland
- Pitt and Nelson Roads, Wellington Point
- Tulloch Drive and Redgrove Avenue, Wellington Point
- Anson Road, Wellington Point
- Kingfisher/Springacre Road, Thornlands
- Rickertt Road, Birkdale
Schools
All Redlands Coast State and Private schools will be closed tomorrow. Education Queensland has advised that the Department is monitoring the situation and are asking parents and caregivers to check their website for the latest information: closures.qld.edu.au
Aquatic Centre
Cleveland Aquatic Centre will remain closed on Monday 28 February to allow for site clean-up, water testing and treatment of all pools.
Recycling and Waste Centres
Council’s Recycling and Waste centres on the mainland and islands are expected to be open as usual on Monday 28 February. However, Council is monitoring the situation and if further closures are necessary the community will be informed.
IndigiScapes
Council’s IndigiScapes Centre at Capalaba will remain closed tomorrow, Monday 28 February
Creative Arts
The Redland Performing Arts Centre Box Office will reopen tomorrow, Monday 28 February during its usual hours of 9am to 4pm
Redland Art Gallery at Capalaba and Cleveland will remain closed on Monday, 28 February.
Redland Libraries
All library branches will be open. However, library programs will be cancelled tomorrow, Monday 28 February. The mobile library visits will be cancelled for the week 28 February – 4 March.

Please be mindful of conditions when outdoors. Queensland Fire and Emergency Services advises that people should:
- Never drive, walk or ride through flood waters. If it’s flooded, forget it.
- Seek shelter, preferably indoors and never under trees.
- Avoid using the telephone during a thunderstorm.
- Beware of fallen trees and powerlines.
