Redlands Coast residents are encouraged to dust off the cobwebs from unwanted household items this month and give them a new life through the national Garage Sale Trail.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the initiative was a fun way for Council to encourage the reuse of goods and help educate the community about the positive impact of buying secondhand items.

“The idea behind the Garage Sale Trail – that of sustainable living – is a priority for Council as we partner with Redlands Coast residents and community groups to divert reusable resources from landfill in our progression towards a zero waste future,” Cr Williams said.

“We are all responsible for the waste we create.”

In 2019, Redland City Council received a Garage Sale Trail Outstanding Achievement Award for best overall campaign in the nationwide community event.

The event is powered by local councils and encourages people to buy second hand goods, and helps to educate the community about thinking twice before dumping unwanted items.

Council did not participate in the Garage Sale Trail last year due to safety concerns relating to COVID-19.

This year, for the first time, the Garage Sale Trail will take place over three weekends with free online masterclasses on topics such as how to turn a profit from your pre-loved items on 6-7 November 2021, and virtual and neighbourhood garage sales on 13-14 and 20-21 November 2021.
