Redlanders are being urged to recognise the outstanding work of fellow locals by nominating them for the city’s annual Australia Day Awards.

Nominations are now open for the 2018 awards in categories ranging from citizen, young citizen and senior citizen to “local hero”.

There are also awards for outstanding community organisation, as well as work in the fields of environment and sustainability, culture, sports and reconciliation.

Redland City Mayor Karen Williams says the awards acknowledge high achieving members of our community who have gone above and beyond to help improve the lives of others and contribute their time, knowledge and enthusiasm to the community.

“There are some incredible people doing special things within our community and we would love to see that celebrated,’’ Cr Williams said.

“So if you know of a community group or person who has been making an outstanding contribution to our city and is worthy of recognition, I encourage you to nominate them.’’

Cr Williams said the Reconciliation Award was a new category for significant achievement by an individual or group actively working on reconciliation between Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander and non-Indigenous people in the Redlands.

“I am thrilled to see this included in what are grass roots community awards which reflect every facet of our community,” Cr Williams said.

Nominations close 4pm, Friday 24 November 2017. The Redland City Australia Day Awards presentation will be held in January 2018.
