Creative Arts Redlands’ latest public art project is now on display at Wellington Point.
The mural, developed by highly acclaimed Quandamooka artist Elisa Jane Carmichael and her team of artists for the Wellington Point Village Green wall, was completed on Friday 16 December.
Redland City Mayor Karen Williams said the project, part of the city’s five-year public art plan, was themed “Caring for Country: Return to Nature”.

“Council is very proud to support such an inspiring mural which opens a window to our rich natural and cultural heritage,’’ Cr Williams said.
“The Villlage Green mural is the first in a series of streetscape works planned for the Wellington Point Village over the next year.’’
Division 1 Councillor and Deputy Mayor Wendy Boglary (Wellington Point, Ormiston) said the artwork would add extra vibrancy to the Village and it was fitting the current project had strong local influence.
“Elisa – or Leecee as many know her – grew up at Wellington Point and her work is particularly inspired by local plants native to the area,’’ Cr Boglary said.
“This mural adds a connection to country, colour and another dimension to strengthening our community. It builds on my vision for this area as a welcoming community gathering space.
“In the next stage, community consultation on public art for the Wellington Point Village roundabout is planned to start early next year.’’
It is one of several high-profile projects for Carmichael, who recently completed the sculpture Tow Row with Queensland artist Judy Watson, a major public art commission for the Gallery of Modern Art. In July, she also had her work featured on Brisbane’s William Jolly Bridge.
Carmichael, who participates in exhibitions at Redland Art Gallery and Saltwater Murris Quandamooka Inc, has exhibited and presented workshops nationally and internationally.
The mural project is managed by CreativeMove for Creative Arts Redlands.
