Compact Prints 2012, currently exhibiting at Redland Art Gallery Capalaba, showcases the beauty that can be found in small packages, or more precisely, Compact Disk (CD) cases.

The exhibition is a series of 166 prints curated by Umbrella Studio, showcasing the print-making talents of national and international artists, with each individual piece telling its own story.

Framed by mounted CD cases, the works include a variety of etched, scratched, watermarked, stamped, rolled, blocked-in and engraved artworks.

Council’s Arts, culture and Innovation spokesperson Cr Paul Bishop said Compact Prints 2012 was an exhibition that warranted time to study each work.

“With works from 22 international artists, it is a stunning collection that we are proud to have on display in our Capalaba Gallery,” Cr Bishop said.

“The overall intent of this exhibition is a celebration of printmaking, but it is much more than that, with each individual piece shining the spotlight on different techniques and materials.

“On closer inspection, there is a vast array of textures and colours, mixing traditional methods with digital techniques.

“Compact Prints 2012 International Prints/Exchange takes viewers on a journey of many tales and will delight young and old alike.”

Compact Prints 2012 will be on display at Redland Art Gallery Capalaba, Capalaba Place, Noeleen Street, Capalaba until 13 September.

This exhibition is proudly displayed in partnership with RedArts – Redlands Arts Council.
