Four courtesy buses will be available to ferry Redland revellers to the festive fun at Christmas by Starlight on December 7.

The buses, provided by Redland City Council, will operate across four routes servicing major stops throughout the city and will make a return run from Norm Price Park – Redland Showground in Cleveland at the end of the event.

Also at the end of the night, the Stradbroke Flyer will run a late ferry to North Stradbroke Island, leaving at 8.40pm.

Mayor Karen Williams said the free buses were to ensure as many people as possible could enjoy what was shaping up to be a huge night of FREE family fun.

“We want to make sure as many people as possible have the opportunity to enjoy this special event at this special time of year,” she said. “This supplements the public transport which already services the City.”

Timetables for the courtesy buses will be advertised extensively and are also available on Council’s website www.redland.qld.gov.au.

Cr Williams said volunteers from Redland Museum would be helping to control on-site parking for 500 vehicles at Christmas by Starlight, for a gold coin donation.

Christmas by Starlight kicks off at 3pm with a host of family fun, including children’s activities, face painting, a petting zoo as well as a large variety of food, drinks, information and merchandise stalls. A special children’s concert – Christmas at Bunyip Creek – starts at 5.30pm and then the Christmas concert begins at 6pm.

“The traditional Christmas Carols will be led by Connor Crawford, who left the Redlands in 2009 to pursue his on-stage career in Melbourne, the highlight of which was the rave reviews he received starring as Frankie Valli in Jersey Boys,” Cr Williams said.

A host of other home-grown talent will also perform throughout the evening, which finishes with a spectacular fireworks display about 8pm.

Christmas by Starlight – a no-alcohol event – is brought to you by Redland City Council with the generous support of Energex, Bayside Bulletin, JJ Richards, Fiteni Homes, Stradbroke Flyer, Viking Rentals, SS Signs, Mr Fireworks, Koala Graphix and Christmas Festivities.
